Why should you join APPAS?

In conjunction with the Office of Pre-Professional Advising, APPAS aims to educate students about PA school application processes & prerequisites, create a collaborative and supportive community of like-minded pre-PA students, bring awareness to the PA profession in the community, and connect pre-PA students to the local PA community, including practicing PAs and PA schools. We assist students on their pre-PA journey, helping them become better applicants, and ultimately, better PAs, while making life-long friends in the process.

“I was a biology major on the pre-vet track my freshman year and a business major on the pre-PT path my sophomore year. I am now a senior public health major, business administration minor and excited to be working towards PA school! As a member of South Carolina’s NCAA equestrian team, I wasn’t involved in anything outside of my athletic and academic commitments until I joined APPAS last spring. Since then, APPAS has helped me navigate the prerequisites for PA school and solidify my post grad decision by exposing me to job openings, volunteer opportunities, and graduate programs across the country. Going on a medical mission trip with APPAS and PhiDE in March was an amazing opportunity to learn more about healthcare, meet like-minded students, and validate the hard work it will take to be accepted into a program. My path has been anything but straight, and I’m so thankful for the support APPAS provides as I continue to figure things out!”

“My name is Sophia Sposato. I am a junior studying public health with a Spanish minor. This is going to be my third year being a part of APPAS. I joined APPAS to be surrounded by a community of like minded students passionate about healthcare working towards a common goal. I want to be a PA because I love their role in healthcare and want to advocate for and educate patients. I want to promote health and wellness for people who have less access to it and make the world better in doing so. APPAS has helped me in reaching my goals and encouraging me to keep making new ones. It has given me so many resources to better myself but also allowed me to meet so many people doing the same thing. It’s so inspiring to be a part of a pre-professional community that is continually working to better themselves as future healthcare providers but also as students. It has allowed me to make so many friends that I know will be in my life forever. In 2019 I served on the executive board as public relations chair and also led the spring break medical service trip to Costa Rica. This was an amazing experience for me and allowed me to share my passion for healthcare and APPAS with other members. Throughout the year and trip I was able to see these members grow in their ambitions and get to gain memorable patient care experience. We worked with patients in a free medical clinic and got to know the community we served in on a personal level. More than anything I saw how this experience impacted other members and how it grew their heart for service and healthcare. APPAS has become part of my family and been one of the best things I have done at USC and it truly has a piece of my heart.”
